Once you have purchased an SSL Certificate, follow these steps to install and configure it for your domain.
- Open a support ticket with our team, quoting your Order ID, requesting we move your site to a Dedicated IP Address. (Please open this ticket on the understanding that the site will be moved shortly thereafter, which will result in a short amount of downtime whilst the new IP propagates.
- Once your site has been moved to a Dedicated IP, login to your cPanel (www.yourdomain.com/cpanel)
- Click 'SSL Manager' (you may not see this option until the site has been moved to a dedicated IP - see above)
- Click 'Private Keys (KEY)'
- Scroll down to 'Generate a New Key'
- For 'Host', enter the exact domain name you wish the SSL Certificate to be activated for. You must put in the www if thats where you intend the certificate to work.
e.g.
- If you enter www.mydomain.co.uk then
https://www.mydomain.co.uk will work
but https://mydomain.co.uk will not.
- If you enter mydomain.co.uk (without the www) then
https://mydomain.co.uk will work,
but https://www.mydomain.co.uk will not.
(This is very important as the SSL Certificate providers need very specific information and any mistakes are non-refundable)
- Click 'Generate'
- The screen should then display lots of information related to your key. (If you see an error at this stage, abort the process and submit a support ticket with details of the error message).
- Click 'Go Back'
- Click 'Go Back' again to take you to your cPanel SSL Manager page.
- Click 'Certificate Signing Requests (CSR)'
- Select the correct host from the dropdown (i.e. with www or without - see point 5 above)
- Enter your details (NOTE: For 'Country' enter GB rather than UK if you are in the United Kingdom)
- Double check your details and click 'Generate'
- You will now be taken to your Certificate screen. You may want to leave this browser window open as in a moment you will need to copy and paste from the line
-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST-----
.
down to the line
.
-----END CERTIFICATE REQUEST-----
including those lines.
Your copy should start with a - and end with a -. Ensure there are no leading or trailing spaces and you copy the certificate exactly.
- Please ensure you can receive Email to one of the following addresses (which will be your 'approver' address):
(yourdomain.com is the domain to which the SSL is going to be installed)
admin@yourdomain.com
info@yourdomain.com
webmaster@yourdomain.com
postmaster@yourdomain.com
You may need to setup a forwarder in cPanel to forward one of the above to your main Email address if you do not currently have one of the above active.
e.g. If your main domain is johnsmith@nativespace.com and your SSL is going to be installed at www.johnsonlinestore.com - then you may want to setup a forwarder from admin@johnsonlinestore.com
in cPanel to forward to johnsmith@nativespace.com as this is where we will send the SSL certificate.
- Click on the link in the Email that was sent to you when you ordered the SSL Certificate, with the subject line: "SSL Certificate Configuration Required"
- You will be taken to the SSL Configuration area. Fill in your details, ensuring you paste your CSR exactly as outlined above, and choosing 'cPanel / WHM' for Web Server Type
- GeoTrust will now send you your final certificate. (If you are ordering a True Business ID they will run further checks beforehand)
- When you receive the final certificate go back into cPanel, then SSL Manager then Certificates (CRT)
- Paste your new certificate into the box and click 'Upload'
- Open a new ticket with our support team at http://my.nativespace.co.uk with the subject 'Install SSL Certificate' and the following contents:
a. Your Domain Name
b. Your Username
c. Your IP Address
d. Your Private Key
e. Your Certificate (CRT)
(d and e can be obtained from the SSL Manager area in cPanel)
- Our team will then complete the installation of your SSL certificate and update you when this is done.
